Halfway

Feet hurt. Always tired. But having a good time.
We took the train from London to Paris yesterday. Train traveling is nice-- there's no annoying take-off and landing, the ride is smooth, and the coach is spacious.
We saw so many amazing museums in London. I don't feel I can adequately describe how much it changes me to understand history so much better. It makes me feel like a viable citizen of this world of ours. I have long wanted to understand world history better, and I still have my college history textbooks to that end. We Americans have a disadvantage to the Europeans on this point. They live among it (the history) and are taught to appreciate it from a young age. At the National Gallery, there was a class of 7 or 8 year olds that were learning to think of the paintings in the museum as their own because they belong to Britain and the kids are part of that nation. They were learning how to appreciate and interpret art, and about greek mythology. If I hadn't taken French in junior high, I wouldn't have been exposed to art until college. It's a wonderful gift those kids are being given.
Ben and I already knew this, but viewing so many paintings has reaffirmed that we both love post-impressionism.
For those who might be interested, we didn't fail to see the awesome British Museum, but we did fail to try mushy peas.
So far in France, we've seen the two powerhouse museums-- the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay. Not bad for one day, huh?
